Bonn: Remote meter evaluation and HVAC remote maintenance – securely networked with DEOS Secure Network and Cloud-GLT
Gesellschaft für Energie- und Gebäudemanagement Bonn mbH (EGM) supplies energy in the form of heat, electricity, steam, and cooling. It also offers building management services. Since 1998, the company has been operating as a wholly owned subsidiary of Stadtwerke Bonn.
Together with DEOS AG, the aim was to solve two problems at once: firstly, to find a cost-effective solution for remote meter reading and, secondly, to improve HVAC control for the buildings to be managed.
Instead of having assistants manually evaluate the energy meters, the buildings were networked using the DEOS Secure Network solution. Currently, 10 buildings are equipped with the DEOS Connect Box and an OPEN EMS (DDC). In addition to local HVAC control via the DEOS system, the energy meters are connected via the DDC’s M-Bus interface. The meter readings are thus automatically read and transmitted to the DEOS Cloud to the B-AWS-certified BACnet GLT. The cloud connections of the buildings are established via various access points, such as DSL lines and LTE mobile connections. The expansion of the networked buildings is also possible thanks to the dynamic growth of the cloud solution.
This solution prevents human errors such as transposed digits, mixed-up meter numbers, and time lost due to locked meter access. The IT-secure DEOS solution is economical and reduces personnel costs. In addition, the client received a solution for remote maintenance of HVAC systems to minimize costly on-site maintenance and service calls.
