Quick commissioning – Central parameterization of Modbus room terminals

In a Europe-wide tender for buildings 5 and 6 of the bank in Kiel, with a total area of around 27,000 m², DEOS’s long-standing system partner Melf Söth GmbH won the building automation section of the tender. The biggest challenge was integrating air conditioning technology, energy meters, lighting, and shading into a uniform overall system. The flexibility of the DEOS development tools and libraries was very helpful in this regard. Using the DEOS Modbus macros, the approximately 500 Thermokon control devices used were quickly and easily put into operation and parameterized. Those responsible were impressed by this time efficiency and simplicity.

Commissioning a large number of room control units – DEOS provides the solution

Spread across a total of 10 floors, all room control units had to be commissioned quickly and without errors. Manual commissioning for each device was out of the question given the high number involved. Melf Söth found the right solution in the flexible DEOS programming tools. “With the DEOS tools, we were able to easily halve the commissioning time for all room control units,” says Sönke Hansen, senior technician at Melf Söth, enthusiastically.

“Even the parameterization during the optimization phase of the building is convenient, centralized, and fast,” Mr. Hansen continues. To implement this solution quickly and easily, Mr. Hansen and his colleagues used the DEOS Modbus macros.

Commissioning Modbus room control units with DEOS AG is quick and easy

In the first step, the Modbus addresses were set on the Thermokon control devices and the devices were then connected to the bus. This first step completes the manual work. Everything else can be done centrally from a remote location. The building structure and the installed room control elements were graphically mapped using the DEOS building management system OPENweb. The program that was created can now be used to select both individual devices and groups. In addition to quick individual parameterization, several room control devices can also be configured simultaneously using tables. Those responsible are given an overview of the parameters set for all devices and can significantly minimize configuration errors. This example underscores the flexibility of the DEOS programming tools and libraries. Even devices and systems from other manufacturers can be easily integrated with DEOS solutions thanks to the openness of the system.
