Tierpark Berlin, the largest landscaped zoo in Europe and one of two zoological gardens in Berlin. It is located in Friedrichsfelde in the district Berlin-Lichtenberg. Covering an area of some 160 hectare it is the largest landscaped zoological garden in all of Europe. More than 7,500 animals of some 1,000 species roam about in large enclosures. The zoo was started following WW II after the separation of the country into east and west Germany. The zoological garden was established in the British sector, and as a result, the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) did not have a zoo. When opened on 02. Jul.1955, visitors could view 120 species. Nowadays, it may take several days to view the nearly 10,000 animals from over 1,000 species.

The Mannheim Castle was built during the reign of the Electors Karl Philipp and Karl Theodor in three building periods 1720 - 1760 and was the residence of the Electors of the Palatinate from 1720 - 1777. The Mannheim Palace which is in baroque style consists of several wings: the east wing, the court of honor-east, the central building, the courtyard-west, the south and the west wing. In addition, a castle church and a castle library is integrated into the building. The elongated facades have mostly three storeys. the four-storeyed break up the strictness of the rectangular architecture. The main building and the central pavilion are each one floor up. The historic interior, especially on the main floor, was a work of art of European importance. The sprawling complex belongs with a length of nearly 450 meters and a constructed area of six hectares to the largest castles of Europe. The Mannheim Castle is the second largest Baroque castle complex in Europe after Versailles. During construction, care was taken that it has exactly one window more than Versailles. This should represent among others the important position of Elector of the Rhine, which they occupied in the Holy Roman Empire.
